My God is not a weapon…

Listen up. If I see one more post or have one more person weaponize Christ in an effort to shut me or others down when speaking out against marginalization and oppression, I’m gonna lose it.

“Don’t engage. Speak in love. Why are you so angry? That’s not a very Christian thing to say etc.”

You don’t get to tone police me in the name of God.

FULL STOP.

Hell yes, I’m angry and I’m going to use my voice to speak out against injustice. And yep, I’ll probably have some curse words to go with it, but you know what? I don’t serve a God who isn’t big enough to hear the word shit and not also see my heart.

We have a problem in this country today that when something makes us uncomfortable, instead of sitting with that and examining where some personal work can be done on our part, we immediately begin throwing out WWJD like it’s 1996.

What would Jesus do? I’m so glad you asked. He would be speaking out against injustice too. He would be flipping tables and speaking truth into the very places that claim to have moral authority. He would be holding people accountable, challenging the very fabric of this society and calling out alllllllllll the BS.

What he wouldn’t be doing?

Shaming people for using their voices.

Excusing behavior that is harmful to others.

Turning the other cheek to injustice and oppression.

Personally attacking victims.

Sitting idly by and hoping someone else will get around to fixing the problem.

Seriously, get outta here with all that. I serve Jesus AND I care about social justice. The two are undeniably intertwined and if you knew Jesus as well as you preach, you’d already know that. My God is not a weapon to be used for your discomfort. Figure out why you’re uncomfortable and work that shit out.
